The Windcharm design was one of the initial ideas that came to me for The Windblown Collection, and the first I actually made as a prototype. My intention with these earrings and their sister-necklace, was to capture something of the gentle wave that happens when wind blows across grass, through trees or around a windcharm.
The Windcharm earrings have tiny pieces of 2mm diameter tube at the top, which have been carefully sized to sit neatly on the 1mm thick piece of V-shaped ecosilver underneath it.
Each length of tube is just wide enough to allow the delicate 1.6mm x 1.2mm chain to run through both sides, so the rest of the design falls beneath, and can move freely. You will see this design mirrored across some of the other pieces in the collection: I tried it out here first and was so happy to see it materialize into just what I had imagined.
Falling from the bottom of each silver V are nine cascades, each of ten to eleven tiny green, blue and clear (silver lined), seed beads threaded onto silver headpins. I was thinking of how sunshine reflects on water after a storm, how everything is left dripping and beautiful and also how a peacock’s tail starts intense in the centre and splays out into more gentle gradients.
The earrings are threaded onto handmade, perfectly finished ear wires, formed in 0.8mm silver – neat and comfortable, with the ends ever so slightly tapered but smooth, so they can be easily slid into your ear lobe piercing.
The detail
From top to bottom (including jump rings) each entire earring (from top of earwire's loop) measures 9.4cm long and from side to side, they are 2.5cm wide. The chain section is 3cm long, and the silver V is 2.3cm long and 1mm thick, with the small tube sections extending width-ways to 2mm and length-ways to 6mm. The earwires measure 1.7cm at the front (with an extra 2-3mm at the back) and the cascades of beads are around 14mm long (including loop at top and ball at bottom of the headpin).
