The Windcharm necklace only formed in my mind, whilst I was actually making the Windcharm earrings The bottom half of the pendant matches its sister earrings: with pretty cascades of green, blue and clear seed beads, threaded on silver headpins so they fall in a cascade from a sterling silver V.

At the top half of the pendant, once the delicate 1.6mm x 1.2mm chain is threaded through the 2mm diameter silver tube, it reaches up to either side of the necklace, rather than forming a diamond shape (like it does with the earrings).

I really enjoy this small point of variation between the two Windcharm designs, and the unusual shape it gives the piece. Rather than following a more regular pendant-type design, it gives a sense of space and air: when you are wearing the necklace, the eye of the beholder flows from the neck, all the way down the pretty chain, to the very bottom of the final bead drop.

There are nine cascades of silver-lined seed beads, falling from the bottom of the V, which is formed in sterling ecosilver. When choosing the colours, I was thinking about how sunshine reflects on water after a storm, how everything is left dripping and beautiful and also how a peacock’s tail starts intense in the centre and splays out into more gentle gradients.

I can vary the length of the necklace chain to suit your requirements, but if you would like  a different length from the standard detailed here, please state this in the comments accompanying your order, or send me an email. There is further information in the dropdown section ‘Chain lengths and ring sizes’, below.

The detail

The silver V on this design is 2.3cm long and 1mm thick, with the tube sections extending width ways to 2mm and length ways to around 6mm. The cascades of beads are approximately 2.4cm long (including top loop and bottom ball of the headpin).  The chain section which link the tubing at the top of the V to the small jump rings attaching to the chain, is 3cm long. These measurements together, equate to the ‘pendant section’ of the necklace totaling around 7cm.

The standard sterling silver necklace chain is 45cm/17.7", extending the overall necklace length from the back of your neck to bottom of the pendant to 29cm/11.4". From the clasp end to the catch it measures 51cm/20"  The necklace chain is finished with a 9mm lobster clasp and 4mm round catch, both in sterling silver.

You are welcome to request a specific length of necklace chain, and/or an exact ring size. There is no extra charge for this service, but please do ensure you specify your requirements within the comments when placing your order. Necklace, bracelet, bangle or anklet lengths:

Simply take a tape measure and loop around your neck, wrist or anklet (you may need someone to help), or even better use a necklace, bracelet or anklet that is of the length you would like and measure it from end to end (including catches and clasps)

For further help, please check out my handy guide to necklace lengths

Ring sizes:

If you are unsure of your size, I would strongly recommend purchasing a ring sizer like this one (£1.20). Please note that this is for illustration purposes only; I have no affiliation with Amazon or this seller and you can obviously choose to buy these from other providers).

Alternatively this guide will help you find the correct measurement for the finger you wish to wear the ring on. Please double check before sending your order and bear in mind that your knuckle which the ring needs to move over, may be bigger than the base of your finger where it will sit.

Hallmarking

Open tab

Legally in the UK, any silver piece of silver jewellery weighing more than 7.78g, must be hallmarked in order to be sold as silver. Many of my creations weigh less than this, but I sometimes choose to get them hallmarked anyway (see individually listings).

Jewellers who use hallmarks, are reassuring you of the quality of precious metal they use, ensuring your chosen piece stays special long into the future.

You can learn more about what the hallmarks mean and why they are important in this pdf, or watch the video below.

Logo with leopard's head in gold to right with text to left: 'Hallmark of The Goldsmiths' Company since 1300' then a line under both and under that the text 'Proud to Hallmark in London'
