The Dancing Kite earrings sway lovingly at the heart of The Windblown Collection, with the matching necklace and bangle. Their shape traces out the origin of my creative impulses at the tail end of Storm Eunice. I was thinking about the aftermath of the wind and rain dripping from everything, and wind charms jostled in there and suddenly earring designs rushed into my head.
This kite shape - the angles and lines that lend themselves so perfectly to being windblown and then drenched and then sunlit afterwards – is the anchor point from which all the rest of the collection took flight.
Elegant and classic, each earring is patiently cut from one sheet of silver, then carefully filed and sanded by hand, so air and space flows through them. The handmade earring wires loop through graceful 4mm jump rings at the top of each earring, so that when worn the earrings sway gently from side to side, showing whatever is behind you. They are earrings for special moments, and will become gentle portals, teasing treasured memories back out at a later date.
The earrings are threaded onto handmade, perfectly finished ear wires, formed in 0.8mm silver – neat and comfortable, with the ends ever so slightly tapered but smooth, so they can be easily slid into your ear lobe piercing.
The detail
From top to bottom (including 3mm oval jump ring carefully soldered at the top) the solid cut-out part of these earrings measure 4.1cm long and 1.1cm from side to side at their widest point and 1mm thick. The ear wires measure 2.4cm long at the front from the top of the loop (and extra 3mm for the flick on the back) taking the entire earring length, top to bottom, to just slightly over 6cmm.
